Keele Conferences Continues Winning Streak with 3 New Industry Awards

Keele Conferences & Events is celebrating its second win in the last two months as the team picked up a trio of awards at The University Caterers Organisation (TUCO) Food Service Skills Challenge 2010, following on from its success at the Meetings & Incentive Travel (M&IT) Awards in February.

The annual TUCO National Training Event 2010 took place in Blackpool and part of the event involved a live ‘cook off' where finalists had to prepare, serve and clear a table of four. Finalists were judged on everything from the menu cards to the table lay-up as well as serving a delicious three course meal under the pressure of the competition.

Lisa Amison, Keele Hall's Deputy Front of House Manager, was awarded silver in the Food Service Challenge, which formally recognises food service staff who provide ‘front of house' services for student meals and/or hospitality in the university sector.

Dominic Faulke, Head Chef at Keele Conferences Comus Restaurant, was awarded Bronze in the Knorr Chef of the Year category, an award which acknowledges and rewards the top chefs in the higher education sector. Keele Hall Head Chef Allan Jones and Chef's Lisa Colis and Kim Barnish received the Highly Commended Dessert Award.

The recent win follows the Keele conference team's 12th formal recognition at the M&IT Awards, hosted in February, where the team picked up the silver award for ‘best value for money conference venue' and bronze for ‘best conference and banqueting staff'.

Speaking of the wins, Marcus Wilson, Deputy Head of Keele Conferences commented: "We are very proud of our catering service and it is great news for us to be recognised for our quality of service within the industry. We have received a number of accolades already this year and will continue to provide an award winning service to all of our customers."
