University of Kent Hatrick at Group Travel Awards

VENUEMASTERS, the consortium representing over 80 academic venues, is delighted to announce that the University of Kent has won the ‘Best University Accommodation for Groups' accolade at the Group Travel Awards for the third consecutive year. Organised by Group Travel Organiser magazine, the awards recognise the very best suppliers in the group travel industry and were held at the 5 star London Hilton - Hyde Park on 11 June 2010.
The University of Kent offers a wide range of affordable options to groups, from self-catering houses and flats to en suite or standard single rooms. The University of Kent boasts a picturesque 450 acre campus overlooking the historic city of Canterbury with over 3,000 rooms available during the summer vacation period. The campus provides a safe and secure environment for guests and first class catering. Sport and leisure facilities are available to guests throughout their stay.
Speaking after the awards Kevin Stuckey, Residences and Conference Manager at the University of Kent commented: ‘We are thrilled to win the Best University Accommodation for Groups award for the third consecutive year. Kevin continued: ‘Associations, societies and clubs are turning more and more to universities to accommodate their groups. Heavy investment in in recent years has really raised the standards and the quality of accommodation available is now comparable to many top end budget hotels.'
The University of Portsmouth were runners up and six other members of the VENUEMASTERS consortium were also nominated for the award: Cardiff University, Imperial College London, London School of Economics, University of Warwick, University of York and St Aidan's College, part of Durham University.
There is a wide range of group accommodation to choose from at academic venues, from standard single rooms to hotel style facilities. There are over 120,000 rooms available during the summer vacation, plus some availability at Christmas and Easter. The average group B&B rate is £34 which makes academic venues a great value option for group travel organisers.
