Keele Conferences £3 Million Halls Makeover
October 2010
The latest stage in a major, multi-million pound project to refurbish the student halls of residence at Keele University has been completed, providing conference guests with upgraded, contemporary accommodation.
Designed to enhance the experience of students and conference delegates opting for an overnight stay, the refurbishment project is the end of the first phase of a massive overhaul of all halls of residence at Keele.
The £3million refurbishment, completed this October, of 238 bedrooms at Holly Cross halls of residence features en suite facilities, energy efficient lighting and showers and a fresh new décor along with new kitchens, increased storage space and new appliances.
Sam Rooney, Head of Keele Conferences & Events, comments: "The completion of the student accommodation is fantastic news for clients and their delegates using our student halls for their event accommodation. The expectations of our students and conference guests are no different and we are sure our customers like the new approach we've taken to our halls of residence."
Celebrating its 40th anniversary, Keele Conferences & Events has invested a huge amount in refurbishment in the last 12 months, including a makeover of the accommodation in the Keele Management Centre, earlier this year.
Holly Cross is situated at the south-west of the campus between Keele village and the lecture theatres. It provides accommodation for over 400. The land upon which Keele lies was gifted to the Knights of Templar by Henry I around 1160 as a reward for the services rendered in Normandy. Privileges given to the Knights of Templar were marked with the Templar Cross. The Cross lives on in the name of Holly Cross. The reference to 'Holly' is due to the building being located in the area of the estate famed for its holly hedge in the past.
