Conference Aston Adds 200 En Suite Rooms
February 2011
Conference Aston at Aston University is delighted to announce the addition of 200, state of the art ensuite residences as part of their summer Campus Conferences offering.
Phase I of the £215million Aston Student Village's (ASV) new residences project has been successfully completed, and will be available to Summer Schools and large Conferences from Summer 2011 onwards. Conference Aston offers two year round conference centre and hotel venues alongside an additional 600 bedrooms and the University facilities during the summer.
The project provides just over 1300 en-suite bedrooms on Aston University's campus in Birmingham City Centre, 200 of which are available to Conference Aston during the summer alongside the 400 bedrooms in the existing Lakeside Residences. Phase I also includes an all-weather sports pitch and 80 new car parking spaces for the Conference Aston year round conference centre and hotel venues. There have also been major cosmetic works to the campus as a whole with the closure of Aston Street to create one self contained, city centre campus.
Paul Bunce, Marketing Manager for Conference Aston, said: ‘This is an impressive addition to the Aston University campus and a significant step forward in terms of what we can offer to conference and summer school customers during the July to September summer period. Our customers deserve the highest standards in accommodation and meeting facilities and we are delighted that ASV is now able to offer them some of the best accommodation in the UK Academic Venue sector.'
The residences have been built to the highest standards of quality, sustainability, and security. The new building has achieved the highest BREEAM (BRE Environmental Assessment Method) efficiency rating, and includes innovative features such as wind turbines and storm water recycling. ASV has also achieved Secured by Design accreditation, giving assurance to our conference delegates, summer school students, and their families about staying in the centre of a large city.
Local firms have been used predominantly on the contract, including the project managers, Solihull-based Emprima, the main contractors, Carillion, and many of the supply chain partners. The project has encouraged and trained apprentices and helped the homeless into full time employment.
Paul continues, "The new bedrooms are a fantastic addition to the summer Campus Conference facilities and forms a key part of Conference Aston and Aston University's commitment to providing the UK's leading academic venue"
Construction of Phase II of ASV's new residences, which will provide a further 200 en suite bedrooms has started this spring, taking the current 600 ensuite bedrooms available to 800 by summer 2013.
"The investment is a key part of our growth strategies moving forward and enhances our residential conference capabilities in the summer, strengthening the University's and the City's position as a primary choice for international event organisers with a number of events secured for 2011 and beyond, it provides the perfect compliment alongside the year round conference centres and hotel"
Conference Aston welcomes more than 54,000 people a year to Birmingham for training, residential conferences, for weddings and to stay in its high quality hotel facilities and on site campus accommodation.
It sits at the heart of Aston University, which is a long established research-led university known for its world-class teaching quality and strong links to industry, government and commerce.
