VENUEMASTERS Welcomes Four New Venues
April 2011

VENUEMASTERS is pleased to announce that four new venues have signed up from 1 April, including the first venue from Spain. The recruitment of the University Autònoma of Barcelona follows hot on the heels of the consortium's move into the Republic of Ireland earlier in the year.

In addition to the University Autònoma of Barcelona, the three other new members are MIC Hotel & Conference Centre in Central London, the University of Sussex in Brighton and Sheffield Hallam University. The venues can offer a range of facilities and locations to event organisers and will be a welcome addition to the portfolio.

The University Autònoma of Barcelona's campus is only 25km from Barcelona, has a hotel-convention centre, a hall of residence, meeting rooms and lecture halls, sports facilities and catering services. In Barcelona centre, the University manages a Convention Centre in a modern building declared part of UNESCO's Cultural Heritage for Humanity.

MIC Hotel & Conference Centre is an award winning social enterprise venue, 100 metres away from Euston Station and ideally connected to public transport. MIC is the first UK accredited ethical hotel with the Social Enterprise Mark providing affordable quality hotel rooms, hospitality and meeting facilities all year round. There are 15 individual meeting rooms for 2 to 120 delegates, all either with natural light or air conditioned.

James Barr, commercial director at MIC Hotel & Conference Centre gave his reasons for signing up again: ‘we have rejoined VENUEMASTERS as members as we see them as a key quality business partner to grow our conference and events business. Their flexible approach makes annual membership affordable and cost effective, and their targeted approach is ideally suited to developing sales leads for us to convert.'

The University of Sussex is the only university in England which is entirely surrounded by a National Park, the South Downs. Yet city life is close by, with Brighton only 10 minutes away. Open all year round, the Conference Centre boasts a modern suite of eight stylish conference rooms ranging in capacity from 10 to 250 delegates. During the summer months the venue also offers a range of residential accommodation, including 500 en suite bedrooms.

Sheffield Hallam University's city centre campus is a two minute walk from the city's railway station and next to the Transport Interchange. The venue can accommodate up to 450 delegates all year round and offers a fantastic choice of facilities at two campuses including lecture theatres, meeting rooms, exhibition areas, restaurants and sports facilities. 150 bedrooms are available for residential events during the summer vacation period.

The University Autònoma of Barcelona, MIC Hotel & Conference Centre and the University of Sussex will all be exhibiting at the 2011 Academic Venue Show, which is being held at the Emirates Stadium in London on 11 May. The exhibition is organised by VENUEMASTERS and will feature 46 top academic venues. Visit www.academicvenueshow.co.uk for more details and to register for free entry to this popular industry event.

VENUEMASTERS chief executive, Terry Billingham, commented: ‘we're really pleased to welcome four new venues to the consortium, which increases the choice for event organisers in terms of the locations and types of facilities available. It's an exciting time for the consortium as we expand into Europe. The Academic Venue Show on 11 May will now be a great opportunity for event organisers to meet representatives from some of our new venues, including recent recruits from the Republic of Ireland and Spain. We're looking forward to another great event.'
