More Accolades for Accommodation at Academic Venues
June 2011

VENUEMASTERS is delighted to announce that the University of Kent has won the ‘Best University Accommodation for Groups' accolade at the Group Travel Awards for the fourth consecutive year. Organised by Group Travel Organiser magazine, the awards recognise the very best suppliers in the group travel industry and were held at London's Park Plaza Riverbank Hotel on 10 June.

Set in 450 acres of beautifully landscaped grounds overlooking the historic city of Canterbury, the University of Kent offers 3,750 rooms on campus. Groups can choose either self-catering flats or single standard/en suite rooms in halls of residence on a room-only or B&B basis. Group rates start from only £16.50 per person (self-catering). The University is currently expanding its accommodation with a further 495 rooms under construction which are due for completion in September and will be available for groups in summer 2012 for the Olympics!

Speaking after the awards Kevin Stuckey, Residences and Conference Manager at the University of Kent commented: ‘We are absolutely thrilled to win the award for the fourth year running. This is an outstanding achievement and such a great credit to our dedicated staff who work so hard to maintain such high standards year on year.'

The University of Exeter were runners up and five other members of the VENUEMASTERS consortium were also nominated for the award: University of Portsmouth, St Aidan's College at Durham University, University of Nottingham, University of Reading and London School of Economics.

There is a wide range of group accommodation to choose from at academic venues, from standard single rooms to hotel style facilities. There are over 55,000 rooms available during the summer vacation, plus some availability at Christmas and Easter. The average group B&B rate is £34 which makes academic venues a great value option for group travel organisers.

VENUEMASTERS CEO, Terry Billingham, commented: ‘This award helps to raise awareness of the quality of facilities available at academic venues. It is also recognition of the increase in popularity of university accommodation for group travel. With great rates, locations, facilities and staff, it's a winning combination. We'd like to congratulate the University of Kent on their award success for the fourth consecutive year against some tough competition.'
